American gospel musician Ron Kenoly has expressed his intention to become a citizen of Ghana, stating that he has traced his roots to the country and is attracted by Ghana’s welcoming attitude towards diasporans. Kenoly, who was in Ghana to headline the 2023 Harvest Praise, disclosed in an interview with 3News that he had started the process of obtaining permanent residency in Ghana.

The 78-year-old gospel artist has a history of association with Ghana, having visited the country several times since 1997. During a visit in 2011, he found out that he has Fante roots, as his ancestors were among the Ghanaians who were captured and taken abroad from the Central region as slaves in 1836. Speaking on his desire to become a Ghanaian citizen, Kenoly revealed that his ancestors came from Africa, and “now we are returning.”
